Went with a friend when I was visiting Austin. Was impressed that a club in Austin would run just as well, if not better, than rooms in Vegas. I played 1/2, they had a tournament going on too. I'll definitely be back!
I have been a member at TCH for two months and played over 100 hours there. I highly recommend this place for poker-fans in Austin for the following reasons: 1. It is very cheap (no rake no tip). Since TCH is technically a club rather than a casino, they charge members with a flat $10/hr fee. Also, you CANNOT tip the dealer according to the club rules. Compared to the standard "10%, $5 max" casino rake, the cost is lower by a significant margin. Thus, if you win more than two $50 pots in an hour (generally true for most players in most variants of the game), your cost is lower than playing at almost any casino. 2. Professional dealers The dealers at TCH are well-trained. Although some of them are more skillful than others, they are all professional and friendly to the players. The games are run smoothly. In addition, the receptionist and the cage managers are also nice and friendly, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. 3. Great player pool The players at TCH are diverse and friendly, with different level of skills just like in most casinos. It is a great place to meet some new friends and have some fun. Here is some additional information that may be helpful. 1. The average waiting time I experienced is around 10 mins, with the longest being approximately 45 mins. I usually get there pretty early. 2. They have a betting-line on each table, and any chip crossing that line stays in the pot. So be careful about that. 3. They sell soft drink and snack in the machine and offer free coffee and cold water. You can order food and have it delivered to the club. There is a pretty good Asian food restaurant, A+A, in a few hundred feet. 4. They have billiards, and there are TVs above each table. 5. They have a bad beat prize (7777x and above). Suggestions: 1. Charger outlets at the table for phones and tablets. 2. Hot water and tea. 3. Add some promotions: e.g. hourly best hand prize, splash pot, Aces cracked, etc. 4. Reward programs, membership card perhaps?
Great run card room, professional dealers, and a good staff! Everyone I know that plays here loves it too! Clean room, inviting, and very welcoming environment. Good place for both the casual poker player, and great for those grinders out there!
Tournaments are ran efficiently and smoothly with a lot of staff on standby watching for needs (breaking tables, balancing, floor rulings). Dealer experience is unmatched here; always have an appropriate answer for all situations.
This room is nicer than 95% of card rooms I've ever stepped foot in. Incredible job, Sam & Co!
The exceptional management team has created a comfortable atmosphere with the true poker player in mind.
Great place to enjoy the game of poker. TCH provides a legal, safe, and fun environment... Seat rental is way cheaper than paying rake at regular casinos.
I've been frequenting the TCH for a couple months now and I have found that the staff and clientele at the Texas Card House are very pleasant to be around and offer a great poker experience. The atmosphere is professional while convivial, the dealers are experienced, and things never get out of hand. I don't know what motives people for posting things about shady activity, but I have not experienced anything of the sort. I feel safe at the TCH and I have faith in the owners. Try it out before you make conclusions.
